Blackshaw's New Writing Nights

On the last Wednesday of every other month, Blackshaw Theatre hosts a New Writing Night at The Horse and Stables. It’s an opportunity for writers to showcase what they’re working on and get constructive feedback from the audience.

Blackshaw’s NWNs are all about helping writers, actors and directors improve their craft, to meet new creative new people, and help spark great ideas whilst never forgetting entertaining you, the audience.

Blackshaw Wants You And Your Play!

“Have you got a half-finished play lurking on your desktop that you’ve always wanted to see finished and staged? Maybe you’ve got something that’s a full first draft but you feel like it still needs some work? Or, maybe you’ve got a great idea for a play that you’ve never got started?" - www.blackshawonline.com

Blackshaw are here to help...

"We’re looking for a writer with a play that still needs some work, to be staged as winner of Blackshaw’s Showcase Award. We want to support you through the development process of your play, help you to get the script performance ready, and then produce it as a one-off premiere performance in January 2017.”  – www.blackshawonline.com

Page to Stage

New Writing Nights

Page to Stage comprises rehearsed readings of new theatre scripts, with feedback on the night from an industry panel. It's a bi-monthly event, held upstairs at The H&S Function Room.

Who is Page to Stage for?

WRITERS

Page to Stage is the perfect platform to see your writing up on its feet, and to get constructive feedback from industry professionals and an engaged audience.

DIRECTORS

The event is a great showcase for demonstrating your ability to handle the challenges of working in a small space, to a tight timescale, with actors performing script-in-hand.

ACTORS

Strong rehearsed reading skills, a good stage CV, articulate delivery – if you have these, then Page to Stage is a great vehicle to demonstrate your skills and your support for new writing.

AUDIENCE

Some have described a Page to Stage event as 'a master class'. Watch actors and directors bring the writing to life, and witness the workings of the industry panel as they respond to pieces they have not seen or read before.

How does it Work?

  •     Writers are invited to submit a new 10-minute script (self-contained or an excerpt).
  •     4 scripts are chosen.
  •     Trained actors and directors are invited to apply to breakdowns of the scripts.
  •     Each piece is cast, and assigned a director.
  •     Cast and director meet on the night, with 1½ hours to rehearse.
  •     The industry panel – drawn from theatre directors, literary managers, playwrights etc. – offers constructive feedback, directly to the writer, after each piece is performed.
